Thermoblazer ^TM was developed by Dr. Gordon Sleivert, an applied Sport and Exercise Physiologist that has worked for over 15 years with elite athletes and demanding occupations to enhance performance and wellness in the heat. Dr. Sleivert first experimented with cooling vests prior to the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and was involved in the design of the ice vests used by the New Zealand National Team at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games in Malaysia. Since moving back to Canada in 2000, Dr. Sleivert has been vigorously engaged in research to better understand mechanisms of fatigue and exhaustion related to an elevated body temperature (hyperthermia) and the development of countermeasures to combat these adverse effects. As Director of Sport Science and Medicine at PacificSport Canadian Sport Centre Victoria, Dr. Sleivert has been working extensively with Canadian Athletes peaking for the 2004 Summer Olympics this August in Athens, Greece. The Thermoblazer ^TM cooling vest is one outcome of this work and was developed as a result of:

1. Extensive research and development to optimize the performance and well-being of individuals exercising in extreme heat.

2. The expressed need of Olympic Athletes and Coaches at PacificSport Canadian Sport Centre Victoria to have an effective, lightweight and easy to use cooling system.

3. The design expertise of White’s Manufacturing Ltd., a world-leading producer of survival suits and systems for extreme environments.
